Causes of Psoriasis

The condition known as psoriasis typically arises after the skin has been cut, scratched, or severely sunburned. The skin becomes inflamed, producing red, thickened areas with silvery scales, most often on the scalp, elbows, knees, or lower back. Because of the inflammation, the skin sheds rapidly - every three to four days.
